It’s a spring mechanism that allows you to toggle the ON/OFF function that’s not ‘springing’. This happened a week ago. To operate, you plug into an outlet you turn on/off manually, or you could plug/unplug. The first option seems best and safe. My setup is in a tight space with limited outlets available, so my loss is your gain. Never used it for hot towels, only for stones, so the integrity of the interior looks like new because it never had the steam pressure (moisture) that builds up inside.
